The first and best thing you can probably do for your lower back pain is to rest. You can lie in bed or even better lay on the floor with a pillow under both your head and knees. If you are noticing swelling in your lower back area, you can try an ice pack. Apply and ice pack for seven to ten minutes or so and massage the area. This decreases muscle tension. Drinking warm water with honey is said to help lower back pain as is the application of mashed potato. It sounds strange but mashed potatoes apply to the back when cool and held on with a bandage for about an hour relieves the pain and has been practiced for years. Increasing your intake of vitamin C by eating more citrus, tomatoes and strawberries also helps.

Today most people over the age of 40 have some sort of lower back pain. Sometimes it’s caused by an accident, lifting something to heavy or a slip and fall but sometimes strain on the lower back day after day can result in chronic lower back pain. These are some remedies to try instead of or in addition to analgesics.
