Question:

I’ve had IBS for about 10 years now. Sometimes I get a dull burning pain in my lower intestines. Last night though, I had such bad abdominal cramping I could barely move. It’s gotten much better today, but still not back to normal. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m in very good health and was surprised & didn’t know if it just went with the territory….. Angie

Bad abdominal cramping can come with the territory. Everyone’s pain is different, and IBS typically has times when it can be worse than others. OTOH, when you have a new symptom, or a change in intensity of a symptom, particularly if this continues, you should go back to the doctor to get it evaluated. Having IBS doesn’t prevent other things from going wrong and there is a goodly number of things that cause abdominal pain.
