abdominal pain / colonoscopy
Question:
Hi! I had a scope one time long ago with out anything knocking me out and I don’t ever do that again. You still have test results to get don’t you from the biopsies I hope that was taken during the procedure? Don’t give up there are other things to use to check to see what is going on with you. It took over a year for me to get diagnosed and lots of tests too. So keep on track to find out what is going on. When is your next appt? If you don’t have one to see this dr then find out why and if they say the scope didn’t show anything then get another dr. UM MOM Susan
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Oh Dear, anyone any experience with this very horrible test? After a solid 8 months of abdominal (pins & needles) pain, had my first colonoscopy this morning. Decided to forego sedatives and painkillers as that required someone to drive me home. Live alone, (as a loner sort of) so figured if I can get up from that table and then just go home (which I did, but at what "cost"!!). Boy oh boy, that was some pain. No explanation for the abdominal pain though, good news no cancers found. What now, I say to myself…..live with the pain forever I guess. If this is off topic, give me hell, I can now handle anything.

Thank you for the reply. It makes me feel less "weird", yes the pain was overwhelmingly bad. You wrote that even with painkillers and sedation you could feel pain, I can understand that now. Wow, you sure have gone through a lot with all the operations. You are quite correct, the pain is still better than dying of any undiagnosed and preventable illness. My hope is that the medical profession will find an easier test. My very best wishes for you!
Lapage, Yes, I have experienced this; the first colonoscopy I had, about 10 years ago, was done without sedatives or painkillers – and none were offered! I thought I would die!!! The most recent colonoscopy, which was performed under sedation & with painkillers, but I still felt some of the pain. It was like being in a fog, with bad (not terrible) cramps in my abdomen. The good news is that the test probably saved my life – after the test I first had a "right hemi-colectomy", and a month later (after abscessing), when the surgeon removed the rest of my colon, he said it "just fell apart" and that he had never seen anything quite like it. I would say that any pain I suffered was well worth it, and might also be for others. Ask for the drugs, being in pain serves nothing. I seriously doubt that this is off-topic; I am pretty sure that few of the folks posting here have escaped this test. Stuart //ssj152

Dear Lapage, No, you don’t just stop here and give up. Something is causing your pain, but only you can help yourself track it down. And if one doctor doesn’t seem to be able to help, try another, and another until you get your answers!! No one should have to live with unexplainable and constant pain. Keep trying! My thoughts are with you. Margie CD Class of 67 UC Class of 96
