There is something called megacolon, which is enlargement of the colon, usually acquired due to chronic constipation or other factors that prevent normal timely emptying, but I don’t know if it would directly result in bleeding. Possibility of hemorrhoids with constipation is possible too, and sometimes hemorrhoids bleed. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Barb

If it was just streaking on the toilet paper or the stool itself I wouldn’t worry. What you should be concerned with is if the stool looks black or ‘tarry’ or like ‘coffee grounds’, sorry but this is what is said in the literature. Any of these -may- mean, bleeding in the intestine or the colon. Sometimes the stool can look like this if you use Pepto Bismol, It does have a tendancy to do this and is nothing to worry about. Now if you bleed freely and it does not stop after several minutes then definately call the doctor or 911 right away! To be honest it just sounds as though it may have been a small tear or fissure that bled just enough to give you a scare. Next time you are in a similar situation tell the driver to pull into a gas station or threaten to soil his car seats!

I have a question.. I’ve had left sided chest pain (sometimes upper abdominal pain) for years, with no answers.. Lower G.I., upper G.I., Abdominal CT scans, countless blood tests, etc…I’ve had so many tests run… I wanted to ask a question – SORRY to be so blunt… but.. the other day (and this happened once before) I was very far away from a bathroom and I felt an urgent need to get to the restroom.. I decided to just try to make it home.. about a 25 minute ride – not a good idea – I was in a lot of pain needing to go to the bathroom and I could literally feel like I was going to explode, but I had to obviously contain it in me… the cramping got worse- finally I got home and I jumped in the bathroom… the cramping pain was bad but subsided as I went to the bathroom, towards the end however, there was some red blood, more like streaks, mixed in with sort of clear mucuos.. my question is.. is it possible that holding that in for a long period of time could cause trauma to the colon that it would bleed slightly? The blood has not continued past that day.. the exact same thing happened last year when I couldnt get near a bathroom…. I had a fecal occult blood test done last year to detect for blood in stool and it came back negative.. Thank you, and sorry for this story
