Question:

I just saw the dateline episode – I explains everything.  How come no doctor has noticed this for the last 25 years? I don’t know if this is an acceptable post for the newsgroup (couldn’t find FAQ’s), but can anybody recommend a doctor/ob-gyn in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area, who acknowledges, understands and is current on PCOS?  (email me privately if this request doesn’t belong.) Thanks! Deb dj…@worldnet.att.net

For a geographical listing of infertility specialists, try www.inciid.org or www.asrm.org or www.resolve.org. i would call and ask if the doc is using metformin or rezulin or has a specialty in PCOS.

I believe I might have PCO. I brought it up to my current GYN and he said "whelp, maybe you do….keep reading about it I guess".  I was shocked by his attitude!  I dont think he even knew what it was. The following are my symptoms:  irregular cycle since puberty, occasional hirsutism (especially right before menstrual flow), body acne, obesity….I was put on the pill once and it made me flow heavily once I took the placebo pill and I couldnt stop for about a month.  I sometimes have long long stretches of amennorhea also. For the last month I have been spotting a lot, and I have for the last four days had some lower abdominal pain…a dull pain that comes and goes.  I am deeply concerned but dont know what to do. I dont want to go to another GYN thats going to ignore me.  And I cant go back to THAT guy.  I have an appointment with my family doctor tomorrow night but I dont know there is much she can do…. Please help…do you think thats whats wrong? Where and how do I find a doctor that will know what this is all about? I live in the South Jersey area close to Philadelphia. Dandy

Your symptoms sound familiar, but there are tests that are more accurate.  I would indeed mention it to your regular doctor, and ask for a referral to a GYN or endicrinologist who handles PCOS patients.  That is what my GP did.  He diagnosed me, and sent me to the specialist the same day. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Dandy Darling wrote: > I believe I might have PCO.
