Question:

I would like to know what exersizes are best for gaining strength and flexibility in the hip flexors. I am unable to sit on my heels is this due to crappy knees or poor hip muscle?

Where exactly do you feel pain or discomfort? I would also like to know if there is any exersize (non-weight) that will help build up my butt. I have been using the leg press (no access to / cant afford free weights) to try and build my butt but it has just made my quads and calfs bigger (not gonna use the word toned). I has done nothing for my butt, well it seems to have made it flatter.

I’m confused.  Are you going to a gym and have access to a leg press — but they don’t have free weights? Im currently pushing 100kgs on the leg press, and i push slow and deep.

I’ll advise you to be very careful about going too deep on leg presses. Recently I had ongoing abdominal pain and after seeing the OB/GYN, GP and a Gastro/Intro I finally figured out (along with the help of another trainer) that the leg press was the root cause of the problem — and that it was likely due to my taking it too low.  What had not caused a problems when I was doing under 300lbs was causing a problem at over 400lbs. TIA Anna

After doing deep squats for years, I was given the nickname bubble-butt.

Oh god, i wanna be called bubble butt ; ) To work the hips, lunges are a pretty good exercise.

Well the pain is at the base of my knee cap, at the top of my shins. When i try to sit on my heels it feels like they are going to break or snap. I remeber when i was about 5 my any time o would cross my legs my knee cap would "lock". I would stay bent for half an hour or so. Ive only been able to crouch for a few months (i think this is due to practicing yoga)weights) to try and build my butt but it has just made my quads and calfs bigger (not gonna use the word toned). Yes, there are no free weights, its a very crappy gym.I’ll advise you to be very careful about going too deep on leg presses. I hope your abdominal pain has gone. Its funny you should mention that, i have a very funny sensation in my lower abdomen (it feels like its coming from my womb) and lower back. It feels as if im being "pushed" in that area. Like a wierd internal dizzy feeling, kinda like when your riding the big wheel. Thanks Rudy

I think its more likely that your quads are too tight. Yes, there are no free weights, its a very crappy gym.

Have you tried squats? Even though you’d only using bodyweight you could still make some progress.   IMHO, you might want to encourage your gym management to get some free weights, look for a different gym, or maybe spend the money on setting up your own personal gym.  A gym with no free weights and only machines makes very little sense to me. I hope your abdominal pain has gone.

Yes it has.  In another month I’ll add the leg press back. Its funny you should mention that, i have a very funny sensation in my lower abdomen (it feels like its coming from my womb) and lower back. My discomfort was somewhat similar.  Try not to go so low and see if your discomfort stops. — Rudy – Remove the Z from my address to respond. "It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!"  -Emiliano Zapata Check out the a.s.d.l-c FAQ at:  http://www.grossweb.com/asdlc/faq.htm

The leg press is a pretty good machine but your feet position determines the muscle group it hits.  If you have your feet relatively close together it works your quads and calves mainly.  To work your butt and hamstrings, you want the widest stance that your feet can have and have your toes angled out.  Do the reps slow and as deep as possible as you said but only a wide stance works the right muscle groups.  See if there is anyone around who can check your form.  If the leg press machine is a universal that has two small plates for your feet then you are out of luck as you need a leg press with one large area so you can position your feet wide.  Without the leg press, you can do deep knee bends with your feet far apart toes angled out and look at the ceiling while doing the reps. After doing deep squats for years, I was given the nickname bubble-butt. To work the hips, lunges are a pretty good exercise. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi all I would like to know what exersizes are best for gaining strength and flexibility in the hip flexors.
