Question:

Hi, I am new to the group. I have RA with possible lupus. I sure sound like the rest of you. My doctors seem to be concerned about ulcers being caused by NASIDS and other meds. I am opn a batch and it is hard to judge. Most must be taken with food and I know that if I don’t I have a lot of abdominal pain within an hour. It might help to  keep track of when you experience the pain.             MIMA – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Jerry Malone wrote in message <01bdf28b$0e50e380$e2604a0c@malone>… >I am 52 years old, diagnosed 3 years ago.  I have the joint pain, fevers, >vertigo as many of you do. Jerry:  You might have fibromyalgia, too.  I found that when my lupus is in remission, the muscles take up the job of giving me a hard time.  My doctor says the fibro is probably what’s giving me intestinal problems.  He didn’t seem to think there was much to do about it except continue to take flexeril at night.  You might check our a fibromyalgia support group.  Good luck.

Hi Jerry,   Most of the time, stomach pain, etc. is caused by the medications… Make sure you take meds with food.  Plenty of food.  Unless it says to take on an empty stomach! I guess I`ve been lucky, my doc says I must have a stomach of steel. All the meds that I`ve gone through, LOL! Believe it or not, dramamine or ginger (1 tsp in hot water) or the ginger pills help.  If ya take 2 ginger pills and in 10 min. don`t taste the ginger, you need another pill.  Usually 2 is sufficient. Well, hope this helps.   ~Cactus~

All the anti-inflammatories kill my stomach….on the 4th kind now and same thing!  I did find this last time that even when taken with food I get the stomach pain later.  I happened to have some pretzles with me and ate a few when the pain started, and soon after it went away:)  Try that or crackers when the pain pops up.  Good luck! Hi everyone, I’m visiting this group for the first time.  I don’t have Lupus, but my mom and her sister both had SLE. (I do however have Hashimoto’s and seem to be starting to develop other immune/inflammatory conditions).  I wanted to caution you about taking NSAID’s on an empty stomach.  My mother took them all the time and as a result, they couldn’t medicate her orally because she developed ulcers on her esophagus.  I take ibuprofen quite frequently but always take it with a meal and water, and have had no stomach problems. jen

Hi Jerry,  I also have Lupus and gastrointestinal problem.   Last year,  I could not eat anything for 2 mons cause my stomach was full of acid and gas.  I had intestinal spams, abdominal pain and irratable bowel syndrome just like you do.  At first, I thought it was related to Lupus, so I increased my dose of prednisone and that did not help me any.  I finally went to a gastrointerologist and he gave me a drug called prevacid.  I took that for one week and the symptoms went away.   I don’t know if you’re currently taking any medications for stomach, but you may want to ask your doctor about this drug. Good luck and feel free to e-mail me  if you like to talk about this.

Hi ! My name is Kitty. I have just found this board. I was told I have lupus about 10 years ago. I have lost my job because of to much absenteeims. I take Plaquinil, flexoral,Pepsid (perscription strength)all because of the lupus. The past 3 or 4 years I have had gastro problems. Fatigue, joint pain, tingly fingers and toes, Migrains, dry eyes mouth and skin, and sun reaction, are just a few of the things that come along with "Illness’. The fact that I "Look"OK makes people appear to look at me, unbelieving. I need the income from my job, but with my work history, Its hard to find an employer that will hire me. I miss about 30 days a year because of this thing.  My husband wants me to apply for dissability, I don’t  think they will give it to me so why bother. It seems like so much effort and I really don’t have the energy. Depression sets in and that is my life…

Hi Kitty, Social Security Disability is a long, sometimes grueling process. But you sound like you are truly disabled. SSA considers you disabled if you cannot work "regularly" 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Depending on where you live, and how well your doctor documents your disability, you may be approved right away, or it may take a couple of years and a couple of appeals. I’m awaiting a hearing before an administrative law judge. The huge majority of people are approved at this step, so I’m hopeful to finally get what I deserve soon! Don donhan…@mail.com

Hi Jerry… Hi Everybody Else… I am new to this group, actually just yesterday.  I have a miriad of symptoms but on some days I guess the IBS seems to be the worst.  Others it’s insommnia or the pain in my hands, wrists, ankles and feet from the RA I have as well as the Lupus.  I started out a year ago being diagnosed with CFIDS and a few months later added Fibromyalgia, then just last friday I was told about the Lupus and RA.  I guess I am still adjusting to all the news. I wonder how everybodt else handles it.  I had to quit my job this year. Couldn’t take the stress. I have to go now…it’s hard for me to type for long periods of time.  I;ll add more later.
