Help/Need Advice
Question:
: Hi anyone. I have been through tons of specialists and have many : symptoms that appear on the panic page. But rather than attacks, per se, : I have chest and back pain all day as well as stabbing pains in the : abdomen. Is this very common with panic disorder, or do I need to keep : pushing my MDs for another diagnosis? Thanks for your help! Hi Klammens, We have a list of medical disorders that should be ruled out in the diagnosis of panic disorder. See our ASAP Dictionary at http://www.netaxs.com/people/aca3/asap-ala.htm and (in the dictionary) click on the Medical Disorders table. You may wish to discuss these disorders with your doctor. Nonetheless… chest, back and abdominal pain are fairly common among anxiety and panic disorders. I suspect the abdominal pain is due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which seems related to the hormonal problems that some of us suffer. Miscellaneous joint and muscle pains are also common with such disorders. Have your doctors suggested any therapies or medications? Feel free to post or e-mail us at any time. Oh, and welcome to ASAP!
Best Wishes, Arthur

All I can say is that I am having the exact same symptoms as you except that I wouldn’t describe my abdomen pains as stabbing…more like dull aching. Have no clue as to what it is from. Betting on anxiety though. Allegra

It’s *possible* that you are suffering from anxiety, but no one can be certain. If it were me I’d keep pushing for a physical diagnosis *and* I’d see a pshrink to see what s/he thought about the possibility of an anxiety disorder being at the root of this. Hope that’s some help. — Gary Cooper

Hello ladykat, I am not a doctor, so please don’t take the following as medical advice. I had some mild chest pains, and also some mild pain in the abdomen when I was experiencing the worst of my symptoms. I have read many posters complaining of both chest pains (many kinds) and stomach problems (again many kinds), but I do not recall any back pains. Hopefully someone will have something more specific for you. Regards, John Daly
