Question:

By saying that you’re going to suggest the laparoscopy to your physician, does this mean he has dismissed this procedure before? If so, then discuss with him the reasoning behind the dismissal and then take enough material with you to back up your theory as to why you think it is necessary. By him wanting you to stay on pain meds for 3 months tells me that he is aware of how most insurance companies are strict in their requirements.  Surgery and extra procedures have to be approved by an insurance company first.  It used to be that a doctor could just schedule and the insurance automatically covered it.  Due to an "abuse" of non-medical surgeries, insurance companies have lobbied and received the government backing for their pre-surgical approval processes.  If a child had tonsillitis twice in a year, then you could take the child for a tonsillectomy. Now, with most insurance companies, there has to be documented paperwork from a physician showing that this child has had more than 3 incidents within a six month period.  It’s all bureaucratic wrangling, but that’s the way it is now. Why not call your insurance company and say that you may be having this procedure and see what their guidelines are? As far as a scheduling time, most doctors work around both of your schedules and the seriousness of the problem.  Some doctors only perform surgeries on certain days due to their load of patients at the office (this is mostly performed early in the mornings so they can be back at the office before lunch). As for recovery, each person is different.  Some may be able to resume most of their normal activities within a few days, whereas some may have a longer recuperation period.  The most important thing in any recuperation is your frame of mind.  If you think it’s going to be a long time before you are "back to normal", then it will be.  If you enter with a mind frame of it’s going to be better, then it can be. Hope this is helpful.

Hello everyone, I posted once before and explained my long history of abdominal pain.  I am going to request an exploratory laporoscopy from my OB/GYN tomorrow to determine just what is going on with my enlarged uterus and painful right ovary. He wanted me to go 3 months on pain meds and to keep a journal to show to the insurance company if needed.  Can they really deny such a request???? Any suggestions about how I should request this procedure would be appreciated.  If he should agree that it is appropriate what can I expect as far as time for scheduling a date and what type of recovery would I be looking at.  Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!!! Toddy
