Question:

I’ve been able to shrug off my winter complacency and have whipped myself into pretty good shape the last month or so.  There’s been a few times, however, that my runs have been cut short because of a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen (near the ovary) that does not cease until I stop running.  It’s not a side stitch, I’m familiar with those buggers from when I took up running a couple years ago.  It occurs about once or twice out of every ten runs, so it’s not a real threat to my training.  It can also occur at any point in the run, yesterday it happened at mile 7.  I’m 42 and currently running 25-30 miles a week, hoping to build up to a 40-mile a week average.  Any other female runners out there have this experience? — patty r

Response:

First, I’m not a woman but a medical student. How close are these pains to your period?  Some women have pains that precede their periods. Hope this helps. Cannon
