Nighttime abdominal pain
Question:
Hi all, I initially wrote this off as a fluke or just my body adjusting to the amitriptyline, but it’s happened now 4 times in the past 2 weeks (since starting the med). I will get up in the middle of the night with BAD sharp abdominal pains and diarrhea. Not the usual loose and small stuff, but large volume watery output. I have NEVER had this prior to the med. Now in the 2 weeks that I’ve been on it, I’ve had 2 days where I felt much better (almost normal), 4 days that have been much worse, and the rest were about the same as usual. I’ve been keeping a diary since the beginning of the year. Has anyone else experienced anything like this on OR off amitriptyline? I know nighttime diarrhea is not considered a symptom of IBS, but I really don’t know what else it could be as my colon has a clean bill of health as well as my small intestine. I’ve also never had abdominal pain this bad before either, it has always been just frequent diarrhea in the past. The med is supposed to HELP pain, which is the most puzzling thing to me. Also, the pain seems to be fairly high up, like at the bottom of my ribs and mostly on the left-hand side. I’ve got a call into my doc, but I’m looking for anyone else’s experiences like this. Thanks, Doomie

Been on 20 mg of Amitriptyline for about a month. The only side effects I have found are excecise sleepiness and some constipation. There are no stomach pains but if you are on a higher dose it may affect you more. — "Doomie" <s1dum…@disc2softwareREMOVETHENUMBERS.com> wrote in message

I’m taking 25mg, which is what I started at also. Of all the side effects listed, the stomach pains are not one of them, so I’m not really sure if it’s the med, although this has absolutely never been a problem I’ve had before. Oddly enough, my doc didn’t call me back today either, so I’m going to have to try again tomorrow to get some answers. I guess it could be whatever fillers are in the generics that could be causing a problem, but that’s a long shot. "falc" <f…@sympatico.ca> wrote in message

I’ve been on 75mg Elavil for about three years. I’ve had similar symptoms, only with lower right quadrant pain, before and since taking the Elavil. In my case, I take it to prevent migraines. The only symptom I’ve ever had from it was dry mouth, which went away after a few years. — "Did Father shoot him?
