Question:

I have not visited this newsgroup for quite awhile and missed a lot of what has been going on.  I would like to know if anyone has found a temporary help for raynaud’s when the fingers become inflamed at the base of the cuticle?  I wondered if soaking in epsim salts would help & if anyone knows.  I hope it is okay to ask this question as I relize we are not doctors but many have experiece with things that have helped them.  Thanks for any information. Rosemary

Hi, A lot of drugs we take can cause sun sensitivity. Plus people that have overlaps with Lupus also are hyper sensitive to the sun. I know many drugs we take can make us burn easily. What are you doing for the rash? Did it go away after you came indoors? I use a nitroglycerin cream in the winter when it is cold. For the infections I use neosporin. That works pretty well. Your doctor can prescribe a cream. The name of it escapes me at the moment but my doctor gave it to me when I was having ulcers. Long before any sort of diagnosis. I have lived with raynauds for years. It seems like forever.

Thank you for the information I’m glad I did’t buy the epsim salts.  I have used the neosporin and it did not seem to help much when it had flared up before.  I have not found a doctor in the area that seems to know much about it in this area yet-but I will keep trying.

I have a similar problem since I have been on Prednisone and cannot tolerate much direct sun or heat.  It is a real disappointment.          I hope you are more comfortable now.  Soaking in lukewarm water and baking soda eases the discomfort for me.  Avoidance of strong sun is necessary too, but after a long winter of indoor light, it is so nice to feel the sun again.           Will you call your Doctor?         So sorry for you.  Take care.  Susan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Richard Schiehl wrote: > today was an absolutely beautiful day down on the gulf and i decided to > soak up some of heat and sun.(we all know how good heat feels) > welllllll, i was only out for 30 minutes and broke out in the most > horrifying rash from head to toe. yes i called my doc. he felt it was > the steroids that caused this reaction. my question is has anybody > experienced the same thing? its bad enough when you cant go outside > because of the cold, but to be confined when it is wonderful out is too > much.  thanks.

lupus. that word scares me as my mom and aunt had sle w/pss. no it didnt go away completely. i was told by doc to take 2 benedryl and a cool sponge bath. i did. needless to say the benedryl knocked me out for a couple hours. i still look like i have a mild case of measles but this to shall pass. its just one more symptom for my journal and one more reason to laugh. after all laughter is the best medicine. thanks for asking and caring……love and hugs….colleen – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Sherry Messick wrote: > Hi, A lot of drugs we take can cause sun sensitivity. I’ve had some pretty nasty abdominal pain from gas before, but anything that’s accompanied by fever sounds suspicious.  You should call you doctor.

I personally was told epsom salts was okay. I also was told that the best solution is just sudsy water. I do know that some doctors don’t suggest using epsom salts for whatever reasons. You should check with your doctor before you try it. I don’t have the foggiest why epsom may not be a good idea but I have had several tell me that their doctor said not to use it. A good doctor is important. I wonder why epsom salts would hurt? Like Sherry said in the newsgroup doctor’s vary on this issue. She was told it was ok and so have I been told epsom salts was safe but I have been told by others that they were told otherwise. I would be interested in knowing why. My sister said it could be because it tends to toughen the skin. I hadn’t heard that correlated to epsom salts. Have any of you?
