Question:

Hi all, Pardon my question, but I need some info/advice.  I have moderate CD, dx’d in April 97, no surgeries yet, spent well over a year on prednisone, been off for 4 months, take Pentasa 4×4. Last week I started to feel lousy, at first thought(or wished) it was the flu as it is kind of going around and my father had the bug and was here for a visit.  Well it has been a week of 6+ trips to the bathroom per day, abdominal pain, low grade fevers(99.5-100.0). Warning—-Gross Part My diarrhea has been medium colored and then this morning it was virtually black.  I know from my GI bleed(due to erosive GERD) back in 1990 that black means blood up in the GI tract. My question….has anyone experienced this?  Or is the blood they see red? Several days ago when my stools weren’t watery it looked like there was reddish blood mixed in with the stool…. I already had an appointment with my PCP for tomorrow, but may go on down today as I feel LOUSY.  Just to show how lousy, I love to sleep, and I’ve been up for almost 2 days now, can’t get comfortable or fall asleep. Any ideas, thoughts, words of wisdom you can offer would be appreciated. Ken — http://kjakin.home.mindspring.com/

Assuming you have not taken a megadose of Iron, I would go see your doc today. — DAWN/Bonnie

On the list of side effects from Pentasa, it says:  black stools that look like coffee grounds. I myself have not experienced that, but it looks like it could be.   Marie
