Are you drinking enough water? Also have you had kidney problems before? (I have.) If so, it might be a good idea to have things checked by a doctor. Another problem with back pains was brought up in this NG a couple of days ago. After three weeks on the diet I found that an old back injury (high school, a slightly crushed disk) was flaring up again. According to the poster, back pains can be caused by dehydration of the spinal disks brought on by low-carbing. One recommendation was "therapeutic doses of fish oil". day) for a couple of days now and the problem already seems to be clearing up. — Bob Kanyak’s Doghouse http://kanyak.com

That’s probably dehydration. You might have dry lips as well (as I did). When I got the hydration thing right my back problems dissappeared again. Also a dodgy knee no longer needs cod liver oil to keep it in check (I cycle alot and I need that knee). I’ve only had aching kidneys once. I found that drinking as much water as I could didn;t help; it just went straight through me. What did finally work was when I reduced my caffeine intake by limiting myself to 3 cups a day max and using decaf to fill in the gaps, along with always drinking a decent amount of water just before bed and immediately after getting up in the morning. Strangely this is how my brothers have always operated (they have beer glasses of water next to their beds). Greg

Hi guys, Thanks
Actually the pain went away for some reason, I think it is dehydration because I haven’t been drinking water all that much lately like I should. Jenn

Drink more water, stop drinking sodas (standard advice when dealing with kidney probs), have some milk thistle tea, that always makes my kidneys feels nice. Kali Blonde, fka K in Cali

Also, remember that sitting is the lousiest thing you can do for your back (according to my chiropractor). A lot of new low-carbers are spending extra hours per day in front of their computer reading this NG. Not good for the back. HG
