Interesting LC'er
Question:
I found out this past Mother’s day that my stepsister joined the ranks of the LC’ers. This is surprising, as she’s rail thin. (I hate her.
Well, not really but I do envy her.) She’s had chronic back problems for the past five years. She swears up and down that when she started LC’ing, her back pain totally disappeared. Now she cheats and she’s more moderate carb than low-carb because honestly, she doesn’t have weight to lose, but she says that "something about LC just kicked in and took away my back problems". Go figure. Course we swapped food ideas and she recommended that I drink Stoli-o and plain soda instead of my main weakness, beer. Going to give it a try soon as I find an open liquor store around here. Just thought it was interesting. Anyone know why LC might fix something besides weight problems in a woman who is already damn thin? — The Cat House http://www.feline.org Phone+Fax: 877.278.8075

I am not a doctor but I definitely have less joint pain when low carbing. When I first started, just a day or two after induction and my bad knee was not bothering me nearly as much. I was not aware of the join issue but when I asked my doc about it he said that joint pain appeared to improve in some people when they started low carbing. Just an extra added bonus I guess? — 370/320/270 Confirmed Meatatarian

You know, this is very interesting. Reading this thread has made me think about my hip pain, shoulder pain etc. When I moved to Seattle nine months ago, the change in weather from MT which is very, very dry, to Seattle, which is very, very wet, really made me start aching in my joints. But since LCing for the past two months, I don’t recall my hips, shoulders, etc. aching as much. Very interesting. Thanks for making me think of this, another reason to stick to it! Tracey

Hi- As I wrote in another thread, I am low carbing not for weight loss, but for arthritis and fibromyalgia. In just about 6 days, I am feeling a lot better. No pain pills for 2 days. There is much information out there about the relationship between high carbs and health problems. All sorts of things. Even Dr. Atkins has a chapter or two in his book about how so many nagging health problems get better on his diet. Also, there is a man named Ray Audette who wrote a book called "Neanderthin." It’s along the lines of Atkins, but goes further in that the diet consists of only meat, fruits, veggies, and nuts/seeds. This man totally eliminated his Rheumatoid Arthritis and diabetes by eating this way. He used to walk with a cane, but currently, hasn’t had any joint pain for 13 years. Totally amazing. So, yes, it’s very interesting, but not as uncommon as you might think… erin
