Laparascopy Tomorrow : Scared
Question:
Oh Bonner, what a great thing, to joke with the guys in pre-med… I remember on my last surgery (hyst) I decided I wanted to see the OR (it was a swanky new one, they told me) – and I had a hell of a time talking the pre-med guy into wheeling me just into the doorway to it so I could see, before they knocked me out… should have seen the looks on the surgeon, anaesthatist, and nurses faces when they saw me there, waving and grinning at them from my trolley LOL…. The hardest part for me was the pain in my shoulders from the gas and the vomiting from the anesthesia and pain medicine. Anyways, any good thoughts and wishes are appreciated. I hope everyone else is doing well. Take Care, Amanda Amanda, Just tell your gas passer to give you anti-nausea meds tell him/her how sick you got the last time. They will make sure you will not get sick. I have never had the shoulder pain. My doc is real good on getting that out for me. I have had 3 of them, and none with shoulder pain. I wish you good luck and a speedy recovery!! Remember to take it easy. Relax relax relax cannot stress that enough. Remember to have on hand finger foods and real bland stuff. Although I had a cheese burger right after mine. Bad girl. However, it did taste good after not being able to eat for 2 days and a major bowel prep. I think the only reason why I wanted one is the student Dr. kept saying your belly is hungry. Saying cheeseburger french fries. Just before my surgery. so I woke up wanting a cheeseburger. Oh they will ask you if you ate anything. So I said oh yeah I had 10 waffles, 6 pancakes and 15 sausage links. So when the gas passer was pushing me into to OR he says what did you have on your waffles and pancakes. I said Chopped nuts, apple butter maple and strawberry syrup. That broke the ice we had a gay ole time until he knocked me out. Bonner

Velvet, Out of the 4, I was knocked out for 2 and the last time my doc says I will see you right before they knock you out. So he wheeled me in there asking me about my pancakes and waffles I had and asking me what all I had. I was doped up. For he gave me the relaxing meds before surgery. He was laughing as he wheeled me. I just wonder if my doc was following behind hearing me talk cause I do not remember. I act like such a proffessional in his office that he must of thought she high now. Maybe he came just a tad bit latter. I remember asking for my doc and he pops up and says I am here Linda. I said I am so nervous. Then out went my lights. Guess they did not want a HIGH run away patient. LOL. My OR are looked clean, but it was old like a few hundred of years. It is just an old teaching hospital. I think it started in early 19 hundreds. Bonner – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Amanda I’m sure that things are going well for your surgery today. I had computer problems and did not get any messages yesterday. I have been lucky with the anethesia in that the people giving it always did a good job of removing it. Just walk to help get it out. But hopefully it will all be fine this time. For me having nurses and DH pat my back gently has helped with this as well. Let us know how things went. Kim W – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Hi All, I am having my second lap tomorrow. Hi Amanda, I wanted to wish you luck for your lap. Speak to the anesthisiologist and tell him about being sick with your last lap and they will give you some anti-nausea meds. It may make you even more sleepy but it will keep you from throwing up. I have this stuff everytime I have surgery. For the pain from the gas, try sleeping with your pillows propped up as this will help the gas to leave your body quicker. Also like Velvet suggested, try the peppermints as it will help too. Good luck! *HUGS* Arianna

Good luck iwth it, Amanda. Let them know you had vomiting from the anaesthetic, they have anti-nausea drugs they can give you for that, and let them know you had shoulder pain from the gas last time, they might be able to get more of it out after they finish. See if you can get some peppermint tea, or peppermints, to help with gas in your bowels after surgery, and to help with the nausea from anaesthetic (it helps stop the sicky feeling if sipped slowly). For what it’s worth, Morphine makes me heave lots, so I told them in no uncertain terms I didn’t want morphine post-surgery, and they gave me Pethadine instead, no heaving. Often if you tell them this pre-surgery, they can try other things to try and reduce your post-surgery discomfort. *hugs* Velvet
