Laparoscopy???
Question:
I was up and around the next day, but probably didn’t feel like sex right away. The biggest issue is not pain but rather the exhaustion from the anesthesia. BTW, I had mine on Friday and was back to work on Tuesday. I probably could have gone back on Monday, but I would have been really tired. naomi — Naomi Zikmund-Fisher Fort Pitt Elementary Learning Support Teacher Pittsburgh, PA "To love another person is to see the face of God." — Les Miserables

Any surgical procedure will be just that, a surgical procedure. Your response depends greatly on how you respond to the knife and general anesthesia. I personaly respond badly (as I remember my Lap and wisdom tooth [ALL 4, same time] removal and subsequent dry sockets) to surgeries and seemingly to the incision in the belly button, I spent a long time to fully recover. Yes, I know the incision is tiny and the surgery is minimum risk but some people will feel as if a brick wall fell on them and others will be back to work three days after. (those of us who pereceive the former will understand the jealousy, it’s not fun to feel that bad) So be prepared for for the favorable and not so favorable response to_your_Lap and make sure there will be someone there to check on you for at least for the first day home. Good Luck and hope you feel nothing and have lots and lots of sex after, I am a true WIMP!! KMR P.S. – Do make sure you get some "good drugs man" Peace – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Not entirely painful but a little uncomfortable, with a very bloaty feeling in the tummy. One tends to have alot of gas afterwards. I am going to get a laparoscopy on next Thursday, March 6th, I have a question is this a painful porceedure? And I usually ovulate around day 16 does any one know if you can have sex on that day? Or the day after? I quick response would be appreciated? Thanks!! — MZ

Hi! I hope I’m not too late to respond to the laparoscopy subject. I just had one on February 6th, so the memories are pretty recent. It’s not a major, horrible surgery BUT three weeks later I still feel somewhat tender around the incisions where they’re healing. The worst parts for me were really bad abdominal pain for 2-3 days after; trying to lie down or sit up was pretty bad. Also, my throat felt raw for the first day from where the tube was inserted to keep airways open. I didn’t have ANY problems at all with gas pain afterward like I was told I would. I didn’t have nausea from the anesthesia either. The only bad part of the anesthesia was coming out of it, I didn’t like the disoriented feeling. (But hey, some people think that’s the best part.) My doctor gave me a video of the surgery that I’m curious about but don’t have guts to watch yet. :) As for timing sex after surgery, whatever you do, don’t do it four days after surgery like I did!! I ended up pulling a uterine ligament and that was VERY painful. Sorry to be a rambler. If you have any more questions I’ll try to answer them in a shorter form. Good Luck! Holly

I had a laparoscopy on Feb. 12. The absolutely worst part was waiting before the surgery. The anxiety of it all. To be honest, compared to what I have read, I had a very good recovery. The worst part for me was the shoulder pain from the gas. I experienced with that for 2-3 days. I didn’t have any nausea or cramping. My abdomin basically felt like it was bruised (hurt more than if I had a rigorous workout the day before but bearable), I was able to go back to work the next day and I had sex on day 4. I think the pain depends greatly on your tolerance of pain. The anethesia is hard because you are so drawn out afterwards for some time, but try to relax. Good luck! Jessica

Susan, I am sure it depends on what and how much they do but I have had three laps and each time was back to work in three days. I would think that unless they do an awful lot of moving stuff around and repairing, etc. that you would be able to have sex on the 16th or around that date. Good Luck! Laproscopy. I’ve had two and they varied a lot in pain, but I was not ready to have sex that soon after on either one. Laps can sometimes do a lot of good though, so the next month your chances should be just as good. My best advice for a lap is to plan on taking a week off from whatever you do(work or at home) and let yourself recover. It’s amazing how many RE’s will tell you that you’ll be up and around in just a couple of days! The procedure itself is not painful because you’re out. And if you’re given the right pain medication then recovery is not that bad. But, don’t try to do too much. Also, I’d suggest asking for anti nausea medication from your anesthesiologist for during the procedure. It keeps you from getting nauseas after you come to. Good luck and don’t worry! (Also, ask if they can make a video of the procedure. I know it sounds gross, but it willl help you in the long run since all your later RE’s will have something to look at.) At least get pictures. Good Luck
