Question:

Sorry to hear about your temporary setback.  A relative had a quadruple + several month ago; he spent one day in ICU and was home in 3 or 4 more days.  And back to his old routine in a very short time–confounded his doctors.  So it varies with each person.   But good luck and hand tough!!!  I’ll offer a special prayer for you tonight.                            Gil’ Estrada

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – To make a very long story very short I was having severe back and shoulder pain Sunday night my wife drove me to the ER were I work.  A "mass" the size of a softball  (too bad if wasn’t a golf ball) was found behind my heart and around a few other things in there.  I’m getting my chest cracked Friday morning and won’t be able to work (or play golf) for at least 4-6 weeks.  I would be interested in hearing from any other golfers who have had any open chest surgery so that I may plan my golfing rehab. I enjoy this group very much (even though it has kind of become a pain with the cross posters lately) and will continue to read the information you have to share, especially Randy, Dan, Dennis, and quite a few others. Sink a putt for me this fall. Hope for an early spring!!!! — David Lawson     A Golfer

David,    Good luck on the chest crack. I haven’t but I have 3 friends who have either had heart attacks or bypass surgery and they were all back putting within 4 to 6 weeks and swinging a wedge in 6 to 8 weeks. Back playing golf in about 3 to 4 months. One of them was in very good physical shape to start with and he was definitely on the front end of the curve.   Again , get it done and get back on the course, we’ll try and keep you entertained on the RSG while you’re recuping. Larry

Can’t help with the rehab, but your attitude sure sounds OK – and that’s half the battle. Best of luck and a speedy recovery, David.  If it lends you any consolation, a similar thing happened to a good friend of mine at the age of 19 (!!).  He also had a large mass removed from his chest.  Last year, now aged 37, he ran in the NYC marathon. Remsleep

Here’s wishing you a quick and complete recovery. Out thoughts are with you. Oh, and make sure you get a good polaroid of that mass from the doctor – what a conversation piece! Josh
