There are many remedies and medications that can relieve constipation and the pain that comes with it. Simple activities or diets can be really useful, but are neglected because of the obvious hassles of society. People in this modern age have a lot to worry about in order to make a living and take care of responsibilities. This can cause stress and anxiety which slows down the digestive system making the problem worse. Exercise is something people commonly do not get enough of to relieve this anxiety and ironically enough is a key component in relieving constipation. Along with being crunched for time, it is more likely to stop at a fast food restaurant where the food has a lack of the necessary nutrients, particularly fiber. Fiber is the key mineral in keeping a healthy digestive system with regular bowel movements. It is in food and certain beverages, but that may not be enough for a certain individual. Vitamin supplements are a good way to increase fiber intake. They also have powder drink mixes that dissolves and adds flavor to water. The water is important as well because staying properly hydrated is another factor that may sometimes be overlooked or unthought of. So besides the high fiber diets, exercise, hydration and stress relief, there is another route that is more chemical. On the lower scale of that is caffiene, which is commonly found in tea and coffee. This is a great medium in treatment for mild constipation and staying on the safe side, but may affect mood, sleep, and behavior making it an addictive substance. Above and more effective then that is laxitives. To these other options it is quick relief, but in the long run are unreliable and have side effects. Constipation can be caused by a lack of many things, but also may be due to too much of something. Narcotics such as pain killers and certain anti depressants such as SSRI’s and SNRI’s have this effect, and can vary from person to person. Medications are hard to predict and dictate so it should be the last resort. Constipation is agitating and uncomfortable. However, it is easily treatable with a plan and routine that is customized by the sufferer and as with anything, patience is a virtue.
