Pain that is caused by something wrong with the kidneys is located in the back, right below the ribs on either side of the spine. Kidney pain is usually quite severe and sharp and comes in waves.

How Do I Know If the Pain I Feel is Caused by the Kidneys?
First of all, kidney pain is rarely dull and aching. If you have this type of pain in the middle of the back or lower back, it is most likely being caused by overworked muscles, pulled ligaments, or even an issue with the spinal column. Many people don’t understand that their kidneys are as high in the back as they are, and other back-related pains are often mistaken for kidney pain.

There is really no absolute way to know if the pain you feel is kidney pain. But other symptoms and signs can help determine that. For instance, if the pain is on one side and you also have a temperature and urinary-related symptoms, chances are this is real kidney pain.

What Are Some of the Causes of Kidney Pain?
1.	Kidney Stones – Kidney stones do cause pain, but the pain doesn’t usually start while the stones are still located in the kidney. It is when the stone begins to move out of the kidney when the pain really begins. Kidney stones move through the ureter to the bladder and this causes waves of very sharp pain. The pain moves with the stone. It will generally start on the right or left side of the flank and move around the side of the upper body to the lower abdomen and then the groin.

2.	Kidney Infection – An infection in the kidneys causes inflammation, making the kidney swell, resulting in sharp aching pains. The area is usually very tender to the touch. The infection will also bring fever and vomiting.

3.	Urinary Tract Infections – An infection in the urinary tract left untreated can move into the kidneys and cause pain in the kidney.

4.	Kidney Cancer – Early stages of kidney cancer usually has no symptoms, including no pain. Later stages of kidney cancer will include pain below the ribs that does not subside, blood in the urine, weight loss, and a fever that comes and goes.

At What Point Should I See My Doctor?
Any time the pain and other symptoms begin to worry you, you should see your doctor. A serious kidney infection can be life-threatening. If you have had a urinary tract infection that doesn’t improve, you should see your doctor.

Left side pain is a common problem and almost 90% of Americans complain about it. Some 50% of people have chronic left side pain which is a big concern. It could be directly linked to a disease or malfunctioning of one of the internal organs like kidney infections, bone loss, kidney stones or blood clots. Many people seek medical care for these problems.
Left side pain could be due to a simple sprain or a chronic condition that can make you miserable enough not to be able to carry out even the little everyday activities. Even a mild trigger can give you a chronic condition for which millions of people have to seek physical therapy and medication. During pregnancy, left side pain could result from the strain on muscles of your back. Pregnancy left side pain is also described as a pain starting from the thigh muscles to buttocks. This pain could be torturous enough to wake you up at night. Usually it has been seen that the pain reduces during the day time and increases at night. There are some weight lifting exercises that can successfully relieve the pain. Extensive lifting and twisting, stair climbing, single leg postures, repetitive motions and hip motion have showed great results on people with left side pain.
Doctors often prescribe medication for this ailment. You can only get prescription medicines for this issue. Back pain or left side pain that lasts for more than a week needs to be checked by a physician because in order to treat these problems, the doctor needs to find out the underlying problem which could be some internal serious issue. There are some cases when you immediately need to contact a doctor, for instance, if you feel numbness in our muscles accompanied by swelling, that should be your clue to give a call to your physician.
Most of the individuals under the age of forty five are suffering from sort of back or left side pain problem. In some people, no specific cause of this problem can be found. If the curves in your spinal cord tend to exaggerate, the upper back of your body might look round in an abnormal way giving the lower back a good arch. This needs to be given proper treatment.
Left side pain could be in the upper back or the lower back depending on the cause. It could be wide spread or it could be concentrated in just one region. It can come from a sudden accident, heavy lifting or a fall. It also tends to develop gradually, mostly due to aging and degeneration of the spine.

Does lower back pain mean kidney problems?

There are many reasons for back pain such as lifting something wrong or lifting something too heavy for you, however, sometimes lower back pain can mean an infection in the kidneys. Pain that occurs due to a kidney infection is usually in the area of the back where the kidneys are located; the locations of your kidneys are to the sides of the spinal chord right above the hips. If you have felt pain in your kidneys or have had a kidney infection before, then you know the difference between regular back strains and kidney pains, which are usually very tender in the area of the kidneys. If someone has had direct trauma to the back where the kidneys are located it could cause injury directly to the kidneys; many fighters use the kidneys as a striking area to hurt their opponents. The pain that comes from your kidneys during a kidney infection comes from the kidney’s themselves, but can sometimes appear to be just back pain; once the kidney infection is gone the pain will go away.
Kidney infections can occur due to an untreated UTI (urinary tract infection) or bladder infection. Symptoms of a kidney infection include sudden chills and fever, tenderness in the area where the kidneys are located, dull pain in your lower back where the kidneys are located, burning sensation during urination, and frequent urination. Doctors will usually treat you with antibiotics which kill the bacteria as well as direct you to drink cranberry juice and take cranberry pills to clear out your urinary tract infection as well. When you drink cranberry juice it is important to make sure that it is not sweetened with sugar because sugar will only add to the infection. Cranberry is also known to prevent bacteria from affixing to the lining of the urinary tract. Another herbal supplement used is grape seed extract, which is very highly antibacterial; it is important to supplement using probiotics when using grape seed extract. Other herbs that have been known to help kidney and urinary tract infections include parsley, cornsilk, uva rusi leaf, bochu leaf, cleavers, juniper berry, kelp, and cayenne. Vitamins and minerals that help kidney infections include vitamin C, vitamin E, and B vitamins, potassium, magnesium, and copper. If a kidney infection goes untreated your kidney could fail, you can survive a normal life with one kidney but cannot live without both of your kidneys; it is important to take care of your body by taking vitamins and minerals every day as well as eating vegetables and fruits. You should also be sure to drink plenty of water to ensure that you stay healthy and avoid dehydration in order to prevent the development of urinary tract infections or kidney infections.

What is major pain?

Major pain is defined as any type of pain that is more severe than normal. It can be sharp or shooting pain and usually the person experiencing the pain cannot think of anything but the pain until it passes. Major pain usually requires medical attention.

What are the causes of major pain?

Major pain is caused by many different things. Some things that could cause major pain are accidents resulting in moderate to severe injury and illness or disease with painful side effects. Sometimes people experience major pain and have no idea what is wrong. Most types of major pain are classified as somatic pain. Somatic pain is pain that is very sharp and easy to localize on the body. The pain usually increases if the area of the pain is moved or touched. A good example of someone experiencing major pain would be someone suffering from appendicitis or a broken bone.

Should I see a doctor for major pain?

If you are experiencing pain that is very severe and unresponsive to over the counter medication you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. It is likely that you will not get any relief until you have been helped by a doctor and given stronger medication than what you have available at home. If you are unable to get medical attention immediately there are some other ways to help manage your pain. Relaxation exercises have proven effective in pain management. You can also try heating pads or ice packs at the site of the pain to help relieve any pressure or swelling.

What types of drugs are used to treat major pain?

Doctors often prescribe opiates for major pain. Some examples of opiates are Vicodin, Oxycontin, morphine, codeine, Demerol, Darvon, and Lomatil. Opiates manage severe pain much more efficiently than drugs like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Unfortunately, many people become addicted to opiates. This is why it is important to only use opiates for as long as you need them. When your pain is gone you should discontinue use of the opiates immediately to avoid possible addiction.

Pain is defined as localized physical suffering or an unpleasant feeling in any part of the body. Pain can be very minor to incredibly intense and can be caused by a variety of different things.

What are the different types of pain?

The different types of pain are divided into two main classes: Nociceptive and Non Nociceptive. Nociceptive pain comes from stimulation of pain receptors in the body that are released from damaged cells. Non Nociceptive pain comes primarily from nerve cell dysfunction. Nociceptive pain is made up of two groups: Somatic and Visceral. Somatic pain is usually a sharp pain and very easy to pin point on the body. Visceral pain is a dull pain and not quite as easy to identify where it is coming from.

Should I see a doctor for pain?

Whether or not you should see a doctor for your pain depends on a variety of things. First of all, you have to ask yourself what is causing your pain. Did you have an accident or injury? In the event of an accident medical care should be sought out if the resulting pain is from a broken or fractured bone, a cut or wound that is bleeding heavily, or severe head trauma. If the accident was minor and you don’t suspect any bones are broken or fractured and there are no cuts or severe wounds you are probably okay to treat the pain at your own home.

What is the best way to treat pain?

Pain can be treated in many different ways and it all depends on the type of pain you are experiencing. Most minor pain can be treated at home with over the counter drugs such as aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. More severe pain may require medical attention. Drugs like Demerol, Oxycontin, Vicodin, morphine and codeine are often prescribed by doctors and used in hospitals to manage severe pain. Some of these drugs are opiates and can be very addictive if used long term. If you have been prescribed an opiate for pain be sure to only use it for as long as you need it to avoid the possibility of opiate addiction.

A pain symptom is a side effect experienced from some kind of trauma to the body. This trauma can occur as a result of an accident or some type of illness. A pain symptom can be very minor to very intense. Everyone at some point in their lives will experience some type of pain.

Should I see a doctor I have a pain symptom?

You should only see a doctor if you have a pain symptom that is very intense and severe. If your pain won’t go away with over the counter medicines you should get medical attention as soon as possible. A doctor can provide you with stronger drugs to take care of any pain you may be experiencing. Most of the time minor pain can be treated at home with drugs from your medicine cabinet without involving a doctor.

What are the causes of a pain symptom?

A pain symptom is caused from experiencing pain. If an accident occurs where you injure yourself or if you get some sickness that has painful side effects, pain will result. We have a complex network of nerves and nerve endings in our bodies. When these are stimulated in certain ways pain is the direct result.

How can I treat a pain symptom?

If you don’t think you need medical attention, treat your pain at home. There are medicines like ibuprofen, aspirin, and acetaminophen that are readily available for the treatment of minor pain. Ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory and is great for tooth pain. Aspirin is especially good for headaches. If you must get medical attention because your pain is so severe that over the counter medications are ineffective a doctor will give you something much stronger. Doctors often use opiates to treat very severe pain. Drugs like morphine, codeine and Demerol are all types of opiates that are great at managing intense pain. The danger of these drugs is that they are addictive. Doctors recommend that you discontinue use of these drugs as soon as your pain is manageable without it because of the danger of addiction associated with them.

I have lived with fibromyalgia pain for the past thirteen years. Even though I wasn’t formally diagnosed with this condition until 2002, the painful symptoms began in 1996. There are several symptoms to determine whether or not one has fibromyalgia.

Prior to my diagnosis, the symptoms included pain in my upper shoulders, neck, feet and fingers. After complaining to my primary care physician about having this pain for a few months, blood tests and x-rays were conducted, as well as an over-the-counter medication. When those things did not work to relieve the painful symptoms, he referred me to a rheumatologist to check for lupus, arthritis or other possible rheumatic diseases. It was a relief to finally have a name to the pain I was experiencing, but at that time, there didn’t seem to be many who had fibromyalgia, let alone even heard of it, which made me feel as if this condition wasn’t real.

After the diagnosis, I did some research to learn how I may have obtained this condition. I read that fibromyalgia pain can occur at any time and may have been sparked because of a previous injury. In 1993, I sprained my neck when I was thrown against a wall while breaking up a fight. Then in 1996, I had foot pain primarily in the balls of my feet that would not go away. My primary care physician at that time first advised foot exercises and ibuprofen. When I told him neither of those remedies were working, he sent me to an orthopedic doctor, who prescribed shoe orthotic inserts, however, the foot pain did not go away or abate with the use of the orthotics, exercise or over-the counter medication. There hasn’t been a day since February of 1996 that my feet have not hurt, and the pain isn’t less painful whether I wear flats, gym shoes or other comfortable shoes.

It is now 2009 and the symptoms I have at the moment include pain in my upper back, left lower back, upper arms, fingers, calves, neck, shoulders and on various parts of my body where clothes touch my skin. For instance, sometimes the pants I wear causes pain in my upper thighs or a certain shirt will aggravate the pain I feel in my upper arms. Lastly, not being able to fall asleep and stay asleep is another symptom that occurs when one has fibromyalgia.

Have you suffered with back pain throughout your life? Most of your medication failed you or just knocked you unconscious. If so, you may be interested in another form of pain reliever. Pain therapy, can be many things. One is physical therapy. Physical therapy for pain, helps to relive pain and tension that has built-up on the muscles. Physical therapy is preformed by a physical therapist. They are experts who have studied physical therapy and recovery. The whole purpose of physical therapy is to help reduce pain by using techniques you can do to your body, without causing trauma. Some physical therapist will show you how you can improve your pain, by performing some techniques at home. Therapy offer many different ways to help patients with mobility. The basic form of rehabilitation is exercising the joints and muscles. Massage therapy may be used to help throughout the body as well. The pain that some patients experience may be very severe, and in this case, the therapist may use additional therapies, such as hot packs, ice packs and electrical stimulation.

You may need physical therapy if the pain you’re feeling constantly persist with or without medication. The most common reasons a person will see a physical therapist is, neck and back pain, arthritis and problems related to their hands, legs, arms, and feet. The goal of pain therapy is to help reduce the pain so you can be able to do perform daily activities. Therapy sessions are a way to help you with your pain and ultimately help eliminate it. There are two forms of pain, acute pain and chronic pain. Acute pain acts as a warning sign that informs your body of infection or disease. This type of pain can be very moderate and it may end on its on, or you may need medication to help relieve some of the pain associate with the injury. Acute pain is labor and giving birth, burning your finger, and even hitting your leg against a door. It is pain that generally comes quickly, and it goes away within time. Another form of pain, is chronic pain. The opposite of acute pain is chronic pain. Chronic pain can be very painful and last for days and sometimes years. Unlike acute pain, chronic pain may be related to a medical condition including cancer, sciatica, migraines, and arthritis. Chronic and acute pain can be treated with certain pain therapies.

Pain occurs in the body when the immune system tries to fight the cause of the pain. It also signals the need to see a doctor. You might be diagnosed with an unexpected disease just because of a body pain.

Chest Pains:

Severe pain can be felt on the left side of your chest. It makes breathing difficult for a while. When you finally inhale, a bubble burst is felt and the pain disappears. This condition is not uncommon. It is called Precordial Catch Syndrome. It can occur at any age and very frequently. It is not dangerous. However, it can signal a serious health problem. If the pain keeps recurring and you tend to have a fever or cough most of the time, see a doctor to make sure it is not something serious.

Back Pains:

Pain can be caused in the upper part of your back in case of a heart attack or a herniated disc. The middle part of your back can also become painful if you have pneumonia. Gall stones can also cause it. Sharp pains in the lower-back are mostly caused by a bowel obstruction or appendicitis. In any case, back pains should not be ignored. Like all other body pains, back pains also indicate that you are suffering from a potentially serious medical problem and it is better to call a doctor immediately.

Finger Pains:

Sharp pain in one or more fingers can be related to an injury or an underlying condition. They can be caused by arthritis, nerve problems, injury and blood flow problems. Sharp finger pain occurs mostly when you try to open or close your fingers. Excessive manual work involving the use of hands can be a common reason for the discomfort. Try to avoid any activity that contributes to the pain and call a doctor if the pain is constant even after a week.

Pelvic Pains:

Sharp pain can be felt in the pelvic area due to a problem in the digestive system or the reproductive system. Acute pelvic pain is caused by one problem whereas chronic pelvic pain can be caused by more than one underlying condition. Women can have such pains during their menstrual cycle or pregnancy. Pelvic pain can also take place due to a sexually transmitted disease. Benign growth in the reproductive system can also cause pelvic pain while urinating. Prostate cancer is also linked with chronic pelvic pain. In any case, call a doctor as soon as you experience abnormal pelvic pains. You might have a serious medical problem.

Shooting pain is usually caused by nerve-ending impingements in certain joints such as the elbow, shoulder and lower back. Shooting pain is commonly known as sciatica pain. Most shooting pain is caused by inflammation where the tendons grow larger than normal and put pressure on the nerves. The best way to treat shooting pain is to use treatment that will first reduce the inflammation or swelling. Treatment for inflammation usually includes rest, immobilization when necessary, ice, heat, medication, massage and exercise.

You should first rest if you exerperience any shooting pain. This includes not engaging in any physical activity or workouts. If your pain is severe, you may want to also immobilize your joint with a splint or brace. This can prevent your injury or condition from getting worse. During the first 48 hours or so, ice your joint for 15 to 20 minutes every three or four hours. Ice causes vasconstriction or a narrowing of the blood vessels. It limits blood flow which can contribute to swelling, inflammation and pain early on. Ice works best if you apply it directly against your injury. Once the inflammation and swelling have been reduced, you can use heat such as hot water of a heating pad to treat your injury. Heat will get the blood flowing to your joint again. Blood contains nutrients including oxygen and vitamine C that are necessary for healing to take place.

Use massage to treat your shooting pain. Massage also increase blood flow to the joint. It also relaxes the nerves and muscles which relieves pain. Certain stretching and resistance exercises can also benefit your shooting pain. Start exercising after the initial swelling and inflammation have subsided. During stretching exercises, bend you joint in one direction and get a good stretch for up to a half minute. Then stretch your ljoint in the other direction and hold that position for 15-30 seconds. If your joint bends in more than two directions, move it from side to side and stretch it on both sides. Resistance exercises such as light weight training can add strength and stability to the joint or area in which you have shooting pain.

If you are consistent with your ice, heat, medication, massage and exercise treatments, you can get over shooting pain within a few week. Without treatment, it may take you much longer, during which time you could tear certain tendons or muscles.
