Breast pain is not always a cause for concern. Approximately 7 out of 10 women will complain of breast pain at some point in their lives. Also known as mastalgia, breast pain is more common in younger women. Postmenopausal women occasionally have symptoms as well, although it’s rare.

Breast pain is classified into two different groups, cyclical or non cyclical. Cyclical breast pain is usually related to a woman’s menstrual cycle, involves swelling of the breasts, and affects both breasts at the same time. Non cyclical breast pain is not related to the menstrual cycle, is frequently caused by injury to the breast, occurs in just one breast or the other, and is more common in women over the age of 40. Some women experience breast pain as a result of taking birth control pills, gaining weight, and wearing tight bras or tight fitting clothing around the breasts.

Having breast pain should not immediately raise any red flags for breast cancer. Only about 2% of women with breast cancer ever complain of breast pain. Sometimes tumors in the breasts can be painful and cause breast pain, but the painful tumors are rarely ever diagnosed as breast cancer. Chronic breast pain should be reported to a doctor even though it is likely nothing serious.

A doctor asked to diagnose breast pain will likely perform a breast examination and may also do a mammogram to rule out the possibility of tumors or breast cancer. The patient will be asked questions about personal and family medical history. Once the doctor has diagnosed the problem and possible cause, treatment options will be discussed. If breast pain is severe, the physician may prescribe drugs such as danazol or bromocriptine.

If breast pain is not severe, there are some lifestyle changes that can be made to help manage the pain. Things like cutting back or cutting out caffeine, losing weight, taking a daily multi-vitamin and limiting salt intake can make a big difference in the severity of breast pain. If a doctor decides drug treatment isn’t needed, he or she may suggest some of the above options to women complaining of breast pain.

What are the most common reasons for chest pain? Chest pain can be caused by a variety of reasons. The first and foremost would be chest pain caused by the onset of a heart attack. This type of chest pain may produce a heavy feeling in the chest accompanied by shortness of breath. It may or may not include pain in the jaw and left arm. Many people with chest pain associated with a heart attack also feel nauseated and may vomit. Heavy perspiration is also noted with the onset of a heart attack in many individuals. If you feel you are having chest pain due to a heart attack you should seek medical help immediately.

Why do I have chest pain after lifting? Chest pain can be caused by pulled or strained muscles in the chest area. This can happen if you have lifted heavy objects or had an extra strenuous exercise program session. Chest pain caused by strained muscles is normally somewhat like a burning sensation in the muscles , especially the ones surrounding the rib cage. This type of chest pain might be relieved by taking an over the counter pain reliever or applying a heating pad to the area. Many times the doctor may prescribe a muscle relaxant type of medication to help relieve this kind of chest and muscle pain.Any continued chest pain should be checked out by a physician.

Would a bad cold cause chest pain? Another reason an individual might suffer from chest pain is that they have pneumonia or a severe case of bronchitis. Having either of these ailments can cause chest pain by inflaming the lungs. Often times people with pneumonia or severe bronchitis have chest pain because they have a very bad cough that causes muscle strain near their ribs, which in turn causes pain in the chest area. The treatment for chest pain caused by pneumonia or bronchitis will vary for each individual. Sometimes antibiotics are used to help clear infections from the lungs which may alleviate the chest pain. Other times steroids may be used to prevent or relieve inflammation in the lungs or bronchial tubes.
For safety’s sake any type of chest pain felt should be further investigated by the family physician or a trained and experienced Cardiologist.

Curtailing lung pain can be done in so many ways. If you are a human being, you will need to make sure that you are not playing with your lungs at all. Your lungs are part of your whole body system. Without your lungs, you will not be able to breath in a very perfect manner. It is through your lungs that you are able to breath except encountering any difficulties. Do you really have to work hard in order to curtail your lungs from experiencing any pains? Yes, is the answer to the aforementioned quote. Without working hard, you will fail to prevent your lungs from functioning without producing any pains in the not-too-distant future. Your lungs are as important as your heart and you cannot afford to damage them while you are still alive as a mammal. The information below should help you to perfectly curtail your lungs from causing pains to your body system.

1. Do not smoke if you want to curtail lungs from failing to work fully well. Smokers are increasing their chances of encountering serious pains as they grow. If you are smoking cigarettes on a daily basis, you are burning your lungs with harmful smoke. Do not make any decisions to smoke tobacco when aiming to curtail your lungs from causing havoc to the upper area of your whole body. Smoking cigarettes destroys your lungs and prevents them from becoming strong ones. You are not going to be avoiding lung pains if you are a huge fanatic of tobacco. Perhaps, you should start aiming to live a very healthy lifestyle so that you can prevent your lungs from becoming very damaged. Cancer can affect the lungs hence quit smoking cigarettes now.

2. Also, do not become an arrogant entity if you want to avoid damaging your lungs in the future. Fighting your enemies could cause you to experience lung pains so make sure that you are living a very positive life now. If you had to get stabbed in your chest, you would risk your chances of damaging your whole pulmonary system. Damaging your pulmonary system will cause you to experience pains eventually.

Q. The area right in the middle of my chest, sternum area, is very sore. I do not remember doing anything that would cause external damage. What could be the cause of this sometimes severe pain?

A. The sternum is the bone just below the collar bone, and is often described as a “T” shape. The sternum protects the heart and lungs from being injured. There are a number of different things that may cause sternum pain, and it is important to be seen by a doctor if you are having other heart related pain symptoms.

If you were in a car accident recently, and were wearing your seatbelt, that could be the cause. The seatbelt goes across the sternum, and it could have been bruised or possibly cracked during an accident. If you were in an accident you should see a doctor for a chest x-ray. Playing ball or another sport where you might have been hit in the chest, can also cause bruising and pain.

Costochondritis can cause pain in the sternum area. There is no known cause for it, and does not normally need any treatment. It is an inflammation within the chest walls and causes pain and discomfort. Pressing on the sternum area may cause more pain. Adults with any kind of chest pain, will most likely need to undergo testing to ensure it is not a heart related problem.

Digestive diseases like GERD, may cause pain in the sternum area. This is a more severe form of heartburn and indigestion. If the pain in the sternum area is worse when laying down, or shortly after eating it is most likely a digestive issue. An antacid may alleviate the pain in these cases. A hiatal hernia may also be present and causing pain. A doctor will need to evaluate the severity of the hernia to determine treatment. In most cases the hernia is left alone and just managed with diet changes.

Any kind of sternum pain should be evaluated by a doctor to ensure it is nothing serious. It can be hard to tell the difference between a heart area pain or if the pain is coming from the lung and rib area. A doctor can perform several tests and help ease your mind.
